Before and After

In Florida we often describe things or events in relation to hurricanes.  For example, folks in our area of the Panhandle say things such as, “Before Hurricane Ivan there was a restaurant on that property.” or “After Opal the fishing pier was gone.”  Things are changed forever after a storm, that is until the next storm when once again there will be a before and after.

A new hair style, some nips here, some tucks there, a little makeup, drop a few pounds, and the ugly duckling becomes a swan.  Paint the walls, replace the carpet, strategically place the accessories, and the living room is transformed.  Trim the bushes, plant flowers, cut the grass, and you get curb appeal.  The makeovers!  I love them and am amazed when I see the before and after pictures.

Even though I love the makeovers, it is a great comfort to me when I read in Exodus 3:14 that the Lord is “I AM”.  Not was or will be, but “I AM”.  In a world that is constantly changing, I can have peace and stability for I know that Jesus never changes (Hebrews 13:8).  Jesus is “…Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending….” (Revelation 1:8).  There was nothing before Him and there will be nothing after Him.

Thank You, Lord, that You never change, but thank You for changing me.
